Caixa releases new withdrawals to workers; understand

Caixa Econômica Federal is about to release a new FGTS withdrawal, known as birthday withdrawal, allowing workers with active or inactive accounts to withdraw up to R$6,000.

This measure, which is part of a series of efforts to inject money into the economy and help workers face financial difficulties, is eagerly awaited.

The birthday withdrawal is an option that allows workers to access part of their FGTS balance annually, in the month of their birthday, offering a liquidity alternative without the need to wait for a specific situation.

To be eligible for the withdrawal, workers must adhere to the birthday withdrawal modality by the end of the month preceding their birthday, through the FGTS application or Caixa website.

Although this option has the advantage of accessing the funds annually, it also implies the waiver of full withdrawal in the event of unfair dismissal, limiting the worker to receiving only the 40% termination fine.

The withdrawal calendar for 2024 has already been released, extending from January to December, allowing workers to plan their withdrawals according to the month of their birthday.

FGTS Withdrawals: Termination and Public Calamity

The Service Time Guarantee Fund (FGTS) is an important worker protection instrument, allowing withdrawals in various situations. In this article, we will address withdrawals in the event of termination of an employment contract and public calamity.

Withdrawal upon Termination

Termination withdrawal is the right of workers dismissed without just cause. The amount to be withdrawn corresponds to the total balance of the FGTS account, including employer deposits, interest and monetary correction.

To request a withdrawal:

The worker must have been fired without just cause; The company must have communicated the termination to the government (rais); The worker must have the work card and PIS/Pasep number on hand.

Withdrawal can be made:

At Caixa Econômica Federal branches; At Caixa ATMs; Via the Caixa Tem app.

Withdrawal due to Public Calamity

In the event of a public calamity, the government may authorize the withdrawal of FGTS amounts for affected workers. The amount to be withdrawn is defined by the government and may vary according to the situation.

The Service Time Guarantee Fund (FGTS) is a public fund, created with the aim of protecting workers in the event of unfair dismissal. Every employer is obliged to deposit 8% of each employee’s salary monthly into an account opened at Caixa Econômica Federal in the worker’s name.

The FGTS account balance is adjusted annually by the TR (Reference Rate) plus 3% per year. Additionally, employer deposits earn monthly interest. The worker can withdraw the FGTS balance in several situations, such as unfair dismissal, purchase of their own home, retirement, among others.
