Emergency Aid of R$540 in São Paulo: a new hope for the unemployed

The state of São Paulo is experiencing a wave of euphoria with the news of emergency aid of R$540, intended for unemployed citizens seeking reintegration into the job market.

This benefit is part of the Bolsa do Povo program, created during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the aim of expanding social assistance to São Paulo residents, complementing the aid provided by the federal government.

Bolsa Trabalho, specific to this emergency aid, is aimed at individuals registered in the Single Registry, with a family income of up to half the minimum wage per person and who have been without a job for more than a year.

To participate, those selected must work in public bodies for four hours a day, performing roles such as servants, general service assistants, cleaners, caregivers, janitors, among others.

Although the program is temporarily paused, with no vacancies open at the moment, the expectation is that new opportunities will be announced on the official Bolsa do Povo website.

This emergency aid aims to financially benefit those outside the job market. It provides a chance for professional and social development, strengthening the social safety net for the most vulnerable in the state of São Paulo.

Bolsa Família: a benefit for families in vulnerable situations

Bolsa Família is a federal government program that offers monthly financial assistance to families in situations of poverty and extreme poverty.

The objective of the program is to guarantee food and nutritional security, access to education and health, and to promote the social emancipation of benefiting families.

In other words, if you do not reside in São Paulo, you will not be able to receive emergency aid. However, you can count on Bolsa Família from the Federal Government, as long as you meet the eligibility criteria.

Bolsa Família criteria

To be entitled to the benefit, the family must:

Be registered with the CadÚnico (Single Registry for Social Programs of the Federal Government);

The benefit amount varies according to family income and family composition. The minimum value is R$600, and there is an additional R$150 per child up to 6 years old.

Furthermore, families with five or more people can receive R$142 per capita. In other words, a family of 10 people can count on R$1420.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that São Paulo’s Emergency Aid is not the same benefit as in 2020. At the time, the Federal Government released aid to Brazilians without income due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
