New security update for Vision Pro

The latest beta version of visionOS 1.1 brings with it a new feature aimed at improving the security management of Apple’s Vision Pro device. This update introduces a hardware-based option that allows users to reset the Vision Pro, erasing all data on the device and allowing it to be configured as new if you forget your passcode.

The security of the Vision Pro device is strengthened by allowing a secure reset when the passcode is forgotten.

How does the new reset option work?

Until now, if a user forgot the passcode for their Vision Pro, the only solution was to take the device to an Apple store to perform a wipe. However, with the introduction of this feature in visionOS 1.1 beta, it is now possible to reset the device without the need to go to an Apple store.

After several failed attempts to enter the passcode, a system alert will appear offering the option to restart the Vision Pro. The alert will specify: "This Apple Vision Pro is in security lock. "You can wait and try your passcode again, or you can erase and reset this Apple Vision Pro now."

Security and activation considerations

Importantly, although restarting the Vision Pro will erase everything on the device, thanks to Activation Lock, it will not be usable by anyone except the original owner with the Apple ID password used in the initial setup. After being erased, the Vision Pro can be configured again, allowing the user to set a new access code.

This development in visionOS 1.1 beta represents a significant advance in the autonomy of users to manage the security of their devices, providing a practical solution for situations where the passcode is forgotten, without compromising the security and ownership of the device.
