How does rent exemption work?

In principle, the new measure allows families benefiting from Bolsa Família and BPC to have access to free housing, a significant relief for those who deal with rent costs on a monthly basis.

Specifically, the initiative serves families that already had some type of financing through the Minha Casa Minha Vida program.

For these families, financing payments became exempt, eliminating the charge for future installments of the credit operation.

Who is eligible for rent relief?

Furthermore, the selection of families for rent exemption is made based on the Single Registry for Social Programs of the Federal Government (CadÚnico), prioritizing those with low income.

This includes families participating in Bolsa Família and those registered with BPC, reinforcing the government’s commitment to reducing the housing deficit in the country.

Notification and formalization process for not paying rent

Families that receive the exemption can check the notification from Caixa Econômica Federal about the payment of the financing.

Therefore, after notification, it will be necessary to go to a Caixa branch to complete the bureaucratic procedures, including issuing the certificate of settlement and possession of the property.

With the completion of this process, families will be able to fully enjoy their new home, without worrying about paying rent.

Important considerations

In fact, it is essential to highlight that the exemption does not imply the return of the financing installments that have already been paid. In other words, what has already been delivered will not be returned.

Therefore, the measure benefits families by eliminating future obligations, but does not retroactively apply to previous installments.

Take part in the initiative by signing up to CadÚnico

The Single Registry (CadÚnico) is a system that identifies low-income families in Brazil, enabling access to government social programs.

To register, the family must have a monthly income of up to half a minimum wage per person or a total of up to three minimum wages.

One person in the family, called the Family Responsible, must be over 16 years old and present CPF or Voter ID.

Registration takes place in person at the Social Assistance Reference Centers (CRAS) or CadÚnico service stations in your city, taking documents from all family members.

A positive step

The rent exemption for Bolsa Família and BPC families is a positive step in the right direction, offering not only financial relief, but also greater housing security for thousands of Brazilian families.

By providing free housing to those who need it most, the government reaffirms its commitment to guaranteeing basic rights and improving citizens’ quality of life.
