Even so, it is a state tax. In other words, what is collected from the tax goes to the state coffers. It turns out that there is a federal law that determines the general IPVA rules.

The IPVA 2024 value has been available for consultation and payment since January 10th. The due date for payment in a single installment with a 3% discount is April 19, 2024.

Installment

IPVA can be paid in up to 5 installments for amounts above R$353.60, with due dates from January to May. For amounts between R$ 282.88 and R$ 353.59, payment is made in up to 4 installments, from January to April.

Discounts

In addition to the 3% discount for paying in a single installment, there are also discounts for:

Vehicles over 20 years old: 3% discount for each year exceeding 20, up to a limit of 90%. Electric and hybrid vehicles: 50% exemption from IPVA.

How to check IPVA

The tax can be consulted through the São Paulo State Finance Department website. Furthermore, the taxpayer can also make inquiries in the following ways:

Poupatempo App: Download the Poupatempo app on your cell phone and access the "Debt Consult" option. Self-service totems: Consult the IPVA at one of the self-service totems available at Poupatempo units.

How to pay

Tax can be paid in the following ways.

Internet banking: Access your bank’s website and look for the IPVA payment option. Bank branches: Pay the IPVA at any bank branch in the state of São Paulo. Lottery houses: Pay the IPVA at any lottery house. Debit account: You You can authorize the automatic debit of IPVA from your current account.

Exemptions

According to the SP Finance Department, there are some cases of exemption from IPVA. Check out.

It is worth noting that late payment of IPVA generates a fine of 20% and interest of 1% per month.
