What is the Pé de Meia Program?

In summary, the Pé de Meia Program represents an important initiative by the Brazilian government to face the challenge of school dropout in high school.

The idea behind the program is to provide a scholarship to students enrolled in the public education system, encouraging them to stay in school and complete their studies.

Benefit details

Namely, the benefit offered by the Pé de Meia Program will be distributed over three years, following specific criteria:

R$200 at Enrollment: Firstly, students will receive a payment of R$200 at the time of enrollment, an initial incentive to join the program. Monthly Installments of R$200: In addition, those who maintain a school attendance of at least 80 % of classes during the academic year will be entitled to nine monthly installments of R$ 200, as a form of recognition for their commitment to studies. R$ 1,000 per Year Completed with Approval: Students who successfully complete each year of high school, that is, if approved, they will receive a bonus of R$1,000 per year. R$200 for Enem: Finally, an additional amount of R$200 will be made available when students take the National High School Exam (Enem). This amount will be paid once.

Who can sign up for the Pé de Meia Program?

The Pé de Meia Program is aimed at two main groups of students:

Students aged 14 to 24: For those enrolled in public high school. Students aged 19 to 24: Enrolled in Youth and Adult Education (EJA).

Furthermore, to be eligible for this benefit, students must meet the following requirements:

Have an Individual Taxpayer Registry (CPF). Be registered in the Single Registry for Social Programs (CadÚnico). of Basic Education (Saeb).

Furthermore, to receive the bonus of R$1,000 per year completed successfully, students cannot fail at the end of the school year and must take the Enem at the end of the 3rd year of high school.

When do payments from the Pé de Meia Program begin?

In principle, the Pé de Meia Program is expected to begin benefiting students in 2024, with the first payments starting in March.

In total, there will be ten monthly deposits, including the registration amount, which will take place from March to June and from August to December.

It is important to highlight that there will be no retroactive payments, that is, students who are already in the 2nd or 3rd year of high school will not receive amounts relating to previous years.

According to the Ministry of Education (MEC), beneficiaries will be able to use up to two thirds of the amount immediately.

Meanwhile, the remaining third of the benefit will be saved, being released for withdrawal only when the student completes high school.
