What is PIS/Pasep?

The Social Integration Program (PIS) and the Public Servant Asset Formation Program (Pasep) are government initiatives that provide Brazilian workers with an annual benefit.

For 2024, the value of the bonus is linked to the current minimum wage, which is R$1,412. In other words, it is the maximum amount you can receive for the benefit.

How do I know if I can receive the salary bonus?

Furthermore, the right to PIS/Pasep is intended for workers who meet specific criteria.

To be eligible, you must have been registered with PIS/Pasep for at least five years. In addition, you must have formally worked for at least 30 days during the base year 2022, with an average monthly remuneration of up to two minimum wages.

It is essential that the employer has correctly reported the worker’s information in the RAIS (Annual Social Information Report).

It is worth noting that domestic employees and workers hired by individuals are not eligible to receive this salary bonus.

How does the payment of the bonus work?

PIS/Pasep is paid annually and the amount received varies according to the length of service in the base year.

For those who worked the whole year, for example, the maximum amount is equivalent to a minimum wage (R$1,412 in 2024). Those who worked fewer months receive proportionally.

PIS, aimed at workers in the private sector, is paid by Caixa Econômica Federal according to the month of birth of the beneficiary.

Pasep, for public servants, is administered by Banco do Brasil and follows the server’s final registration number.

According to the official calendar, the payment period starts in February and runs until August.
