CRAS and the role of the Single Registry

CadÚnico aims to meet the basic needs of citizens whose family income is insufficient to guarantee access to the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Federal Constitution. This assistance occurs through social programs maintained by the government, but it is important to highlight that registration with CadÚnico does not automatically guarantee participation in social programs. Each benefit has specific criteria for admitting new beneficiaries.

Registration requirements

Initially, to register with CadÚnico, you must meet the following requirements:

Monthly Income: Have a monthly income of up to half a minimum wage per person.Total Monthly Income: Have a total monthly income of up to 3 minimum wages.Other Conditions: Families with a monthly income of more than half a minimum wage per person, but who are linked or applying remaining in programs or benefits that use the Single Registry in their concessions.Homelessness: People who live on the streets, whether alone or with their families.

The application process

In short, registration in CadÚnico is carried out at Social Assistance Reference Centers (CRAS) or Cadastro Único posts. During the process, candidates will undergo an interview in which they will be asked questions about family composition and other relevant information.

Interview at CRAS

During the CRAS interview, applicants must provide accurate information about income, expenses and characteristics of the household and family members. It is essential to highlight that the veracity of the information is crucial, as inconsistencies can lead to the suspension of benefits.

Necessary documents

At the time of registration, the family responsible must present their CPF or voter registration card.

On the other hand, for other family members, it will be necessary to present one of the following documents:

Birth Certificate; Marriage Certificate; CPF; Identity Card; Work Card; Voter ID.

The Social Identification Number (NIS)

Immediately after the interview, the citizen will receive the Social Identification Number (NIS), if they do not already have it. Only with the NIS, families will be able to participate in social programs through CadÚnico.

Benefits for CadÚnico subscribers

Namely, registration with CadÚnico is a prerequisite for evaluating various benefits available throughout the country, including:

Family Grant; ;Free pass for people with disabilities;Cisternas Program;Elderly Person’s Card;Youth Identity (Youth ID);Happy Child Program;Child Labor Eradication Program.

In addition to national benefits, states and municipalities can use CadÚnico data to implement local public policies, allowing families from different regions of the country to access aid at both national, regional or state level.

CRAS support

Finally, the Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) is not limited to registration with CadÚnico; it also offers guidance on social benefits and people’s rights. In addition, CRAS provides support to resolve social problems, child care and situations of domestic violence. Therefore, it is essential that low-income families are aware of these resources available to help them improve their living conditions.
