The Beatles: Rock Band

The Making of The Beatles: Rock Band

"You're in the band!"Did you miss the VH1 special on the making of The Beatles: Rock Band thanks to a post-Thanksgiving coma? You’re in luck: VH1 has made posted the show in its entirety, and through the magic of video embedding you can watch the whole thing right now.

It’s an interesting show, which includes lots of interviews with all the significant folks behind the game, as well as plenty of entertaining hamming on the part of Paul and Ringo.

The video’s in three parts, which are all embedded after the break.

Improve Your Chances of Making it a Beatles Xmas

I bet they deliberately dressed their model in Mom Couture. Got a parent or loved one who just doesn’t “get” these newfangled music games? Would you like them to be better informed so that they stand a better chance of picking up Beatles Rock Band for you this holiday season? Harmonix has created a video aimed squarely at them, explaining in extreme detail each step along the way to becoming a virtual Beatle.

The video includes advice on which Beatles package you might want, explains exactly how to set up and calibrate instruments, and gives a basic primer for actually playing along. It also — not coincidentally, I’m sure — shows off some of the highlights of the game, to help make that buying decision go that much more smoothly.

Here’s hoping all your holiday dreams come true.

The Making of Beatles Rock Band, Tonight on VH1

Just popping in.I know I said I’d be out today, but it just occurred to me that I never mentioned the Beatles Rock Band special that airs on VH1 Classic tonight. It starts at 7:30 Eastern and Pacific and runs for half an hour. It sounds pretty interesting to me, especially since it’s supposed to include “never-before-seen footage of Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr at Abbey Road Studios being presented with work in progress by the Harmonix creative team.”

And if you’re hungry for more behind-the-scenes Beatles Rock Band goodness to complement the gravy that now runs sluggishly through your veins, check out Game Informer’s exclusive video (via @RockBandAide) about the making of the intro cinematic. It’s a fun and interesting little piece.

Now, back to your food comas and your Black Friday shopping madness!

Beatles Rock Band Bundle Now $100 at Amazon

Value!Looking for a way to get a holiday gift for a music-game newbie on the cheap? I just noticed the Beatles Rock Band “Special Value Edition” bundle is now $99.99 at Amazon. That’s $60 off the regular price, and at least $140 off the price of the premium bundle.

Now, as far as I know these bundles still include the original Rock Band instruments — which is to say, wired and a bit less sturdy — but this looks like the cheapest way to get the Beatles Rock Band and instruments into the hands of your loved ones by the holidays.

If you couldn’t care less about the Beatles, remember that you can get the 360 and PS3 Rock Band 2 bundles pretty much everywhere for $100 until the end of the year. Those include the newer instruments, more songs, and of course access to the Rock Band Music Store.

No idea how long the Beatles sale will last, but given that Harmonix is obviously looking to clear out stock of the original instruments, I’d be surprised if the prices went back up anytime soon.

My eyes hurt.Hey, look: The next round of Beatles Rock Band DLC hits next week! This time around it’s the remainder of Sgt. Pepper’s Loney Hearts Club Band. And since Sgt. Pepper’s lacks the mega-medley of Abbey Road, the songs are coming in a more traditional format.

The Beatles Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite!
The Beatles Within You Without You
The Beatles When I’m Sixty-Four
The Beatles Lovely Rita

The Beatles A Day In The Life

The songs hit 360 and Wii on Tuesday, November 17, and PS3 on Thursday the 19th. Pricing is surprisingly normal: $1.99 / 160 MS / 200 Wii per track, or $13.49 / 1080 MS for all eight tracks together.

Beatles Rock Band Among 100 Best Products of ’09

Why does a freestanding drum head make these look so much cooler? It’s not even November yet, but PC World has gone ahead and run down their 100 best products of 2009. And sitting at number nine on the list (naturally) is The Beatles: Rock Band:

[T]his gaming experience isn’t just a straight setlist, it’s a musical history lesson. … Amazingly, I find myself battling my wife–and the in-laws–for control of the mic.

It’s one of two games on the list, with Uncharted 2 justifiably joining it, albeit way down at number 100. Also appearing from the world of games: the PC game-download service Steam, the newly slimmed-down PS3 and the Nintendo DSi. Nice to see a PC publication giving some love to its console brethren.
