Guitar Hero DLC Today: Megadeth

Guitar Hero: MegadethIf you’ve been with the Guitar Hero franchise since the beginning, two of today’s three songs will be familiar to you. “Symphony of Destruction” was in the original Guitar Hero, and “Hangar 18″ was in Guitar Hero II. But don’t expect you’ll be able to breeze through either of them in their new versions; things have gotten a lot tougher over the years.

Megadeth Hangar 18 Hangar
Megadeth Peace Sells Peace
Megadeth Symphony of Destruction Symphony

The songs are available today for all systems, at the usual prices. Would you like a playlist? You would? Well, you’ll find one after the break. Continue reading →

Guitar Hero DLC Today: Weezer

Guitar Hero: WeezerYeah, yeah, yeah: There are a ton of Weezer songs in the Rock Band store already. I know. But none of them is “Island in the Sun.” So there.

Weezer Beverly Hills Beverly
Weezer Island in the Sun Island
Weezer Pork and Beans Pork

The songs hit today for the usual prices. While I luxuriate in my own island in the sun, please enjoy the playlist, embedded after the break. See you next week. Continue reading →

Guitar Hero DLC Today: Sum 41

Guitar Hero: Sum 41Looking for some obnoxiously catchy pop-punk, Guitar Hero owners? Boy, are you in luck: Today’s offering dishes out three from Sum 41, including “Fat Lip,” as seen on the very first Guitar Hero. (And, I’m almost ashamed to admit, one of my favorites from the game. I know, right?)

Sum 41 Fat Lip Fat
Sum 41 In Too Deep In
Sum 41 Still Waiting Still

The songs are available today on all systems, for the usual prices: $5.49 / 440 Microsoft Points / 550 Wii Points for the pack, or $1.99 / 160 MS / 200 Wii per track. You can hear all three tunes in a playlist after the break, but I warn you: You may need a crowbar to get them out of your head afterward. Continue reading →

Rumor: Linkin Park Bringing 8 Songs to Rock Band in September, 6 to Guitar Hero in October

Rock Band/Guitar Hero: Linkin ParkWell, here’s another early DLC announcement. According to an administrator on Linkin Park fansite LPAssociation, the nu-metal-ish band will be bringing a ton of songs to both Rock Band and Guitar Hero this fall.

According to the post, the Rock Band Music Store will get two songs from the band’s upcoming album A Thousand Suns when it releases on September 14 — along with six older tunes. Then, a month later, on October 19, the Guitar Hero store will get six (yes, six) songs from the new album.

There’s no official confirmation from either music-game camp about the validity of this, but it sounds fairly official. Hit the Read link to see the whole onslaught of Linkin Park heading you way this fall.

Guitar Hero DLC for August: The Used, Sum 41, Weezer, Megadeth, and P.O.D.

Guitar Hero: WeezerYow. The Guitar Hero folks are pulling out all the stops in the lead-up to the Warriors of Rock release, unleashing a month’s worth of downloadable tunes for Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero that are sure to please a hell of a lot of people.

Rockers The Used kick off the month tomorrow, August 3, with two tracks from Lies for the Liars and on from their self-titled debut.

The Used Pretty Handsome Awkward Pretty
The Used The Bird and the Worm The
The Used The Taste of Ink The

On August 10, pop punkers Sum 41 bring their disturbingly catchy tunes to the Guitar Hero store, including a track I’m especially pleased to see making a return from the first Guitar Hero.

Sum 41 Fat Lip Fat
Sum 41 In Too Deep In
Sum 41 Still Waiting Still

August 17 will bring three fairly big hits from Weezer — two of which, yeah, are already in the Rock Band catalog. But the third is one of my all-time faves from them, so I can’t complain too much.

Weezer Beverly Hills Beverly
Weezer Island in the Sun Island
Weezer Pork and Beans Pork

August 24 is another flashback week, featuring three Megadeth tracks, including “Symphony of Destruction” — which appeared in the first Guitar Hero — and my personal nemesis “Hangar 18,” which was in Guitar Hero II. Only now these are both masters, not covers. Woo!

Megadeth Hangar 18 Hangar
Megadeth Peace Sells Peace
Megadeth Symphony of Destruction Symphony

And the month closes out on August 31, with a track pack from popular Christian nu-metal outfit P.O.D. — who will quadruple their presence in any music game with this three-song pack.

P.O.D. Boom Boom
P.O.D. Southtown Southtown
P.O.D. Youth of the Nation Youth

The songs will hit all systems on their respective Tuesdays, and will all go for the usual prices: $5.49, 440 Microsoft Points, or 550 Wii Points per pack, or $1.99 / 160 MS / 200 Wii per tune. I’ll update each Tuesday with the new tracks for the day, of course, so look for playlists there.

How’s this month’s lineup looking for you?
