One of the bands people have been clamoring the loudest about getting the RB3 treatment is Queen. Next week, Harmonix complies in a big way with two huge packs of Queen hits.
The first, the “Queen Extravaganza Pack,” is mostly comprised of tunes new to the Rock Band library:
| Queen | Hammer to Fall | ||
| Queen | Keep Yourself Alive | ||
| Queen | Now I’m Here | ||
| Queen | Play the Game | ||
| Queen | Tenement Funster | ||
| Queen | We Are the Champions (RB3 version) | ||
| Queen | We Will Rock You (RB3 version) |
While the second, the “Queen RB3 Enhanced Pack,” is a selection of songs already available, with Rock Band 3 upgrades.
| Queen | I Want It All (RB3 version) | ||
| Queen | I Want To Break Free (RB3 version) | ||
| Queen | Killer Queen (RB3 version) | ||
| Queen | One Vision (RB3 version) | ||
| Queen | Somebody To Love (RB3 version) | ||
| Queen & David Bowie | Under Pressure (RB3 version) |
Here’s how the pricing breaks down: The Extravaganza will run you $10.99 on PS3, 1100 Wii Points, or 880 Microsoft Points. The RB3 Enhanced Pack will go for $9.99 on PS3, 1000 Wii, or 800 MS. And get this: Every song except for “We Are the Champions” and “We Will Rock You” offers a Pro guitar/bass upgrade for a buck.
Grooveshark appears to be nonfunctional at the moment, so no playlist today. But it’s not like you don’t already know all these songs. Right?

Queen is IMO one of the few artists that is absolutely, hands down worth the upgrade. My only complaint is that not all the songs we currently have are getting upgraded. Another One Bites The Dust and Tie Your Mother Down admittedly don’t have as much vocals or any keyboard, but Crazy Little Thing Called Love and especially Fat Bottomed Girls need harmonies bad. Also, boourns on the lack of Don’t Stop Me Now!
I’m going to hazard a guess that they might be saving the last four upgrades for yet another Queen pack further down the road with a few more new songs. *coughDONTSTOPMENOWcough* That having been said, I heartily approve the Queen upgrades, as well as the fact that almost every single song has pro guitar charting! A hearty FUCK YES to this week! This continues the streak of me buying absolutely everything released so far for RB3. Bleed me dry, Harmonix!
Well, now it’s a sure thing that “rb3 upgrades” will be full price for DLC, not just exports.
Like I said in my comment to your entitlement rant, Joe, adding an instrument and a half for the same price as the 4 instruments originally is a bad deal and I won’t be spending my money that way.
Agreed with Mike. I’m not gonna pay $10 for songs I already own.
Sucks enough that I’m basically being forced into buying two songs I already own, but I can deal with that since buying the songs individually is only a buck cheaper than getting the pack with two upgraded songs. Plus not everybody owns LEGO Rock Band (shame, some great songs there) so I can understand why they included those two songs in that pack.
I don’t have any of the first Queen 10-pack. I hope the other songs will eventually be upgraded too. If so, I will probably get all of it eventually, along with Pro upgrades when I have my Squier.
I’m not so sure why they upgraded the songs that were in LEGO: Rock Band.
So… I guess I should avoid buying any DLC that came out before Rock Band 3, then?
The way they’re handling this seems really sloppy. Are there going to be two versions of each of those 6 songs in the Rock Band 3 Music Store now? And people who own the old versions of songs can’t play them online with people who have the new versions?
So weird. They’re the same recordings; treating them as if they’re brand new songs because the charts are different is really awkward.
I’m simultaneously glad I didn’t buy the available Queen tracks (aside from the LRB duo), and bummed because this means I’ll continue to abstain from buying legacy tracks, on the off chance they’ll be updated. And that includes RBN.
Combine that with RB3 itself cheesing me as much as pleasing me… Good thing I have other games I can play. :\
@Anonymous Broccoli: At least RBN songs can be updated and sold for $1 instead of $2.
