Power Gig Dumps Fake Guitars into Real Volcano

Power Gig Guitar PromotionWell, it’s an attention-getter, you have to give them that. The folks at Power Gig have elected to advertise the superiority of playing music games on a real, stringed guitar by collecting a huge payload of what appear to be off-brand guitar controllers, taking them up in a plane, and dumping them into a volcano.

See the whole video right here:

I guess now we now know where Acclaim’s PR staff ended up.

Hahaha! OK, kinda random, but pretty funny. Doubt this will get the intended action of going viral, but still kudos for thinking out of the box.

Doesn’t change the fact that I’ll still be passing on the game.

  2. Jixzer says:

Yea…that’ll make all the GH/RB players go “uh?”. Stupidest attention grab in the history of Music Games.

  3. Dorkmaster Flek says:

    Well that’s certainly something new…

To be honest, I’m not sure what else they can do to get attention at this point. The major unique thing about Power Gig was the real guitar, and the other minor difference being the whole story focus. RB3 and GH6 pretty much stole both feet out from under them at E3. I feel bad for those guys. :)

Sounded cooler than it actually was.. I was hoping for flames and melted plastic

  5. Lickity Spit says:

How can you end a video like that with a name like “PowerGig: Rise of the Six String”? It really does slap a big “PS: this a PR stunt” to the end.

  6. Rab says:

Those fake guitars were actually played, as opposed to the countless Konami Rock Revolution drum kits which still sit in unopened boxes in the storage rooms of video game stores across America.

  7. Grant says:

What about RB3… Real guitar, amirite?

  8. So THAT’S what caused that damned Iceland volcano eruption. >:|

  9. Whizzer says:

No matter how unlikely, I’d like to see this as a f-you to Guitar Hero. They specifically mention fake guitars and only throw away GH-guitars. Now that Rock Band has real guitars, they may actually pay their respects, even if they didn’t even do so much as acknowledge its existence at E3.

  10. Dorkmaster Flek says:

Are you sure those are GH guitars? They have solo buttons at the top of the neck. I think they might just be third party RB/GH guitars. Probably the cheapest thing they could get, so they just ordered a ton of them.

  11. Scott says:

If the point was to show they were destroying the old era to usher in the new era, they should have at least used actual old used plastic guitars. I spent the first part of the video trying to figure out what kind of awful mutant hybrid guitars were used. Throwing away new stuff is just a waste, although those guitars look like they never should have been made.

Awww! That dumping definitely means something. Would Power Gig overpower the other guitar games? It’s for us to find out!
