@Nick, The unit Mustang I had did seem to have some wear issues already -- but understand that this was a pre-production unit that had probably been passed around the industry three or four times already. The two issues seemed to be (very) occasional button-sticking, and the much more common phenomenon of two strings vibrating when I was very carefully picking only one.

On a bigger note, though, I got a bit weirded out playing GRYBO with it. Now, this may be mainly because I actually do play guitar, so playing chords -- two notes on one "string" -- feels very wrong to me. And doing chords across multiple strings also felt a little weird. But I do think it's something I could get used to in time.

Joe,

Thanks for the detailed hands on report. Since the release of RB3 I'v visited this blog post a few times.

I'm real interested in the Mad Catz Mustang Pro as a good beginner device between the Squier and the game controller.

I want to be able to play GRYBO as well as Pro mode on the same instrument which is a big ask.

What worries me most about the Mad Catz is the build quality. Any thoughts about this from your hands on?

I already have the Logitech wooden guitar hero Strat and would rather not go back to plastic. But I thought being able to strum with strings but still have only 5 frets to press would be as good a starting point as any.

@Grant, I'm not sure what you're asking. Guitars don't usually come with flangers... If you're asking about an effects switch like on the Rock Band 2 guitars, they don't appear to have them. But I wouldn't swear to it.

@Wendall - I didn't go back and look, but I think he was bending the strings, which is a different sound entirely.

@Michael&Joe, Did you see the E3 video that showed simultaneous pro mode gameplay and amplified analog output from the Strat controller? There was one section seemed to produce a whammy effect by "waggling" the guitar. Who knows since they are only prototype models at this point, though?

@Michael Prachar, I did ask, but got sort very evasive answers. They said they couldn't do it on the Squier because it would mess with the strings...that sort of thing. They may just not want to talk about why it's out, or they may be replacing it with something.
