No, I won’t be making a playlist for the whole lineup. Hey, that’s what the game is for!

UPDATE: You know what, yes I will. I did it for Rock Band 3, so I figure it’s only fair. Only, of course “Sudden Death” isn’t on there. See the bottom of the post for the whole, immense thing.

What do you think of the lineup so far? I’m seeing a lot of tracks that are available in the Rock Band library, but I think that’s sort of to be expected at this point. It’s hard to contend with your own back-catalog, much less that of the competition. But these seem like some really solid choices. They’re not all big-time hits, but listening to some of the deeper cuts (e.g., Foo Fighters’ “No Way Back” or the Stones’ “Stray Cat Blues”), I can see why they’re included. How about you?

    Nine Inch Nails – Wish

    kthxbye

  2. Rab says:

    5 out of 35 is not a lot…and a lot less than I expected.

(Anyone counting Paranoid as a repeat is being silly since the Rock Band version didn’t have Ozzy, let alone Metallica)

and jeez joe comparing a classic Stones track from one of the greatest albums ever made to foo fighters filler brings out the former record store employee snob in me…..yay…Stray Cat will join the live version of Prodigal Son and Sympathy for the Devil for a mini Beggars Banquet treat, i guess Street Fighting Man could have been a more popular pick though.

  3. Joe Rybicki says:

Ah, you record-store snobs! :) All I’m saying is they’re both less widely-known tracks, and they both seem like they’ll be fun as hell to play.

  4. Grant says:

I’ll be looking forward to acing the guitar solo on Uprising. Bohemian Rhapsody would be a good one for harmonies and piano, hmm.

  5. Astroburn says:

Hmm.. I already have some of these in Rock Band. Why do I need GH6? Although I do miss playing Dragonforce. Why isnt TTFAF backwards compatible? Why isnt most of GH’s catalog backwards compatible? Oh, cuz they wanna release their previuos songs as DLC… I’m not bitter, really :P

Like I said before, I can wait 9 months and pick it up for 15 bucks like you can with GH5 right now…

  6. Joe Cam says:

There is a LOT in that list I don’t care about.
Drowning Pool’s Bodies? Really? I’m so tired of that song. Pick something else off of their four albums, PLEASE. If you want Dave Williams vocals, at least get Tear Away so it’s not the most overplayed and boring song of their career.
Psychosocial from Slipknot? Of all the Slipknot tracks to pick, you grab one of only three tracks that are in Rock Band? Why not Dead Memories? Go older and get I Am Hated or Spit it Out.
Bums me out to see Nine Inch Nails leave the land of being Rock Band exclusive, but at least Wish is an awesome song.

I’m very torn on GH6. I’m sure I’ll still get it because I get all of the GH and Rock Band games, but I’m definitely more eager to hear info on Rock Band 3 before really caring about GH6 anymore.

Which is really a shame, if you think about it. Off the top of my head I can think of dozens of bands that would be great to play on at least two of the four instruments, and will NEVER make it into a Rock Band or Guitar Hero game because they’re not popular enough. I’m frankly amazed Lush and Bikini Kill ever made it into Rock Band 2, but I don’t expect to see much more of that sort of thing. Instead, I expect a whole lot more of the same bands we’ve seen in the past two games repeated over and over.

  8. Rab says:

Hmmm i missed psychosocial on the list for some reason…so I miscounted….it’s actually six repeats…and seven if you count Paranoid out of 35.

Now I prefer the entire Rock Band series to GH, but let me just point out that the Green Day game, which gets far less rage, aside from only having 48 tracks, ONLY HAS THREE VENUES, and has far less frills than either Rock Band 3 or Guitar Hero 78 will but is the same exact price.

I mean, come on, that’s a very fine set list of 29 (or 28) great songs by top bands….and there’s still another 55 to revealed (and I sure hope it has that short two minute Iron Man by Ozzy with Metallica and maybe one with Lou Reed or Iggy Pop, too)

Heck, who are we fooling? Even if we wait to get it used, ain’t nobody coming to this site who ain’t buying it.

ps i sure hope pour some sugar isn’t from that same wack show they pulled rock of ages and photograph from…thats the only song i like by postpyromania def lep and im shocked that that record doesnt have masters…..it’s only one of the biggest selling albums of all time.

  9. Alan Perry says:

A few tracks I’m interested in, but so far, it looks like I’ll be waiting till it drops to $19.99 or less… :)

Depends on the rest of the tracks. Also, depends on whether they decide to finally deliver on getting older disk songs exportable to the newer games (which I’m assuming won’t happen since it seemed to just wither up and die off in GH5).

  10. Nate says:

GReen Day Rock Band may only have 3 venues, but Complete choreography for each song? Thats pretty cool. Its gonna be like watching a concert. I dont see stock game characters moving across their entire stages.

Besides, based on if we were to buy the songs as DLC, we’re saving money in the long run. Plus getting to play as Green Day.

Lets just thank our lucky stars HArmonix doesnt use “Filler” songs in their band-centric games.

  11. Joe Cam says:

Great point, Nate, on the choreography. I can’t count how many times I’ll see the characters in Guitar Hero 5 just jump from one point on the stage to another. Poor programming with how obvious it is when you can actually see them jumping instead of having it hidden in a transition or camera change.

Why wouldn’t you expect Harmonix to continue branching out? Since RB2 was released, they’ve introduced Violent Femmes, X, The Jam, Luscious Jackson, Dead Kennedys, and Mission of Burma via DLC, not to mention dozens of other “unexpected” artists.

While “Warriors of Rock” is apparently attempting to appease no one besides teenage dudes who need everything to be super aggressive, I have no doubt that Rock Band 3 will feature another thoughtful tracklist that includes a generous handful of songs that any rock music fan will get really excited about. Something for everybody, even weirdo punk/shoegaze/alternaindie fans.

RabHeck, who are we fooling? Even if we wait to get it used, ain’t nobody coming to this site who ain’t buying it.

I’m not buying it. I haven’t bought (or played) a Guitar Hero game since GHII on the PS2. I’m not going to start now, with what looks like an even more embarrassing turn for the series.

Maybe that’s unusual. But so is boycotting all Activision products, and I’m doing that as well.

  13. Grant says:

Are you going to do E3 coverage on GH:WOR & RB3? I’m recording it; it will be on G4.

  14. Colin says:

There’s only a handful of songs on that list that interest me. I’m just not a big-time metal fan. One of the biggies, Bohemian Rhapsody, was just announced for Rock Band, and with the keyboards and harmonies in that game, I’m gonna go play over there.

  15. Karu says:

Some of you people are so… just plain dumb..
The freaking band decides which songs come on Guitar Hero/Rock Band
If they want to ofcourse, please.. god, atleast.. paralyze these people..

    ”repeats repeats repeats”
