It’s been months since we last shared our recent acquisitions, so let’s do another round, shall we? I’m most interested in music, but I’d also like to hear about recent games, peripherals, instruments, gadgets…y’know, whatever you’ve picked up recently that you’re particularly happy with.
Here’s my contribution: After accidentally uncovering that not-yet-announced Look Mexico tune last week, I checked out the rest of the album, and I’m digging the hell out of it. I’d never heard the band before — or heard of them, come to think of it – but this album (To Bed To Battle, Amazon
So, er, not very much like Rx Bandits at all, actually. Nevertheless, that’s who they make me think of — perhaps because of the relatively dense, complex arrangements.
The other acquisition: I succumbed to technolust and got myself an iPad. It’s only been a couple days, and I’m still getting used to it, figuring out what it does well and what it doesn’t do, figuring out comfortable ways to hold it, and so on. But already it’s changing my expectations of how web browsing should work, and how information should be delivered over the internet. In a way I feel like it’s kind of what web browsers were always supposed to be — and I’m not just talking about the actual browser, though that’s amazingly fast and pretty and neat. But it’s the native apps that are really impressing me, the way designers are really exploiting the combination of touch control and huge screen to deliver information in sensible, user-friendly ways.
I was hoping to do a better job of explaining it, but I do think it’s one of those things you have to experience for yourself. I will say this: Right now this is definitely not a must-have product. But in a year or so — maybe sooner — as app and web designers get really familiar with it, it has the potential to make a serious impact on the way we consume information.

just found a new band Gogol Bordello. They have another album released very soon and there energy and passion in their music sounds great.
How about a movie?
I finally caught Duplicity, and it was a smart, clever sting/oceans 11 type film that seems more confusing than a backwards episode of Lost until the finale, where you find out the details don’t matter.
And I guess I heard it years ago, when it appeared in Jay and Silent Bob, but I can’t get Stroke 9′s Kick Some Ass out of my head. Forget waterboarding, force detainees to listen to an endless loop of Smashmouth’s All Star, All-American Rejects’ Gives You Hell, and Kick Some Ass….and they’ll soon be smiling, singing along and ready to tell us anything we want to hear.
Well I can’t take credit for the new find (since I only heard about through your site) but I have now moved up to an acoustic drum set (Pearl forum series FZ725/C) and enrolled in drum lessons starting in May. This was all made possible because of your Omega GM-1 System review.
I will be placing an order next week so that I can rock out in RB2 in style and eventually play without following glowing bricks

I didn’t discover them through Rock Band or Guitar Hero, but I recently began listening to a local band named Lights At Sea, their demo album also called Lights At Sea. It’s six instrumental rock songs that I found at a small store for used music that I frequent, in an area devoted to local (presumably unsigned) artists. Regardless, I really like ‘em.
Otherwise, I can’t really think of anything aside from a seemingly random assortment of Rock Band DLC. Although I haven’t bought it (not yet available to purchase, sadly, but I’ve been streaming it off their Facebook), I have been listening to the song “American Slang” by The Gaslight Anthem. I’ve been enjoying that song, too.
