Yes, I’ll explain that headline. But first, I’ll tell you that we have two unquestionably new tracks available via RBN today: One from Swedish metal band bibleblack and one from Long Beach rockers RED9.
In addition to those, the Parry Gripp tune that first showed up a couple weeks ago is now officially live. (Though I’ve been able to access it via Xbox.com for weeks, apparently it wasn’t showing up in the in-game store.) So three new tunes, officially, since our last update.

Now, I need to explain that Look Mexico tune. When looking for the new tracks that hit RBN today, I noticed that although Harmonix had mentioned a few new tracks at the Creators Club forum, the Rock Band Network page at RockBand.com hadn’t been updated. That meant I had to do a little digging around to find the links to the Xbox Live Marketplace, since they don’t show up when searching Xbox.com and are sort of hit-or-miss when looking in Google.
Don’t worry, I do have a point here.
Anyway, as I was using my cunning web-savvy and top-secret search techniques, I discovered this Look Mexico tune that the XBL Marketplace claims is live as of today. Go ahead and click the price link; you can see it for yourself. I was able to buy, download, and play it (and it’s really quite good, especially on drums), so as far as I’m concerned, man, it’s live. But I wanted to explain all that so you’re not surprised if you’re not able to find it through usual channels. OK? OK.
EDIT: Tommy points out in comments that buying a track before it’s available officially in the music store could raise some issues, potentially requiring you to buy two versions of the same song. So keep that in mind before grabbing that Look Mexico track, all right?

Be careful purchasing songs that haven’t been referenced on RockBand.com but have been listed on Xbox.com. Sometimes tracks are not added to the RBN library (for a variety of reasons), but the link on Xbox.com always remains live. One example is Blondie’s “Atomic.” You can still purchase and download via Xbox.com, but RBN-wise, it was pulled off the store.
The biggest concern with this is that if you purchase version 1 through non-traditional means, and a version 2 is subsequently released, you’ll have to buy the song again to play online with friends, as well as have two versions of the same song in your library.
Ooh, good point, Tommy. Thanks for the heads-up. I think I’d be more annoyed by having two versions of the song than by having to pay the extra buck…
