Open Thread: RBN Faves

Rock Band NetworkYup, it’s RBNapalooza still. Now that the service has been live for a few days, what’s your favorite track so far?

I haven’t tried out all the songs — not remotely — but so far I’m partial to Jonathan Coulton’s “Code Monkey,” mainly for the great beat, fun and simple guitar, and ridiculously catchy chorus. On a less well-known note, I’ve also been pretty impressed with “The Heist” from DnA’s Evolution, mainly because of that ridiculous drum track. No, I’m not remotely close to passing it on Expert, but I’m having fun trying.

How about you?

The Hold Steady – “Sequestered in Memphis” because I love this band so much. I can’t believe they’re in Rock Band now. I really hope we get more of their songs.

The Slip – “Even Rats” & “Children of December” – Even Rats was hands down my favorite track on Guitar Hero 1. I am so glad it is back in Rock Band. It spurred me to get their album, and Children of December is my favorite track on the album (probably because I was born in December). Two great songs.

I’m voting for The Hold Steady too, but in general I’m not a huge fan of some of the uploads so far. I’m sending e-mails to however many of my favorite bands will listen pleading them to look into getting their songs on there. In some cases I get responses letting me know they are unaware of RBN.

I haven’t downloaded many previously unheard tracks, so I have to go with “Even Rats” for the same reason as StrikerObi. Given SO’s comments on the other Slip tune, I think I’ll definitely have to check it out.

  6. Thanks for the shout-out!

I hope people here are finding some new favorites in the “previously unheard,” unsigned, & band-authored charts, too! The bugged preview audio doesn’t do justice, but tracks from Scratching The Itch, James William Roy, Color Theory and my group, You Shriek are all top-quality downloads, making lots of new fans.

Currently my favourite is “Tadpole Search And Rescue” – no idea why, it just makes me bounce.

As for stuff I’ve heard before, the two KMFDM tracks are right at the top of the list, although I can only pass Juke Joint Jezebel, the other song I can’t even make it to the first chorus before I fail!
