Jimi Hendrix Getting His Own Rock Band? [Updated]

Jimi HendrixThe L.A. Times seems to think so. A story posted Sunday about the legacy of the legendary guitarist included this bit:

[Remastered albums will] be issued under a long-term contract that Janie Hendrix signed last year with Sony Music after the 12 years that Universal Music handled all Hendrix releases. At the time the deal was completed, Sony vowed to make his music “available through every type of media” — including a new edition of Rock Band that Janie Hendrix says should appear before the end of this year.

Now, chances are good this just means we’ll see some Hendrix in the next Rock Band…but if Harmonix is fully embracing the band-centric model, this could turn out to be more than that.

UPDATE: Harmonix has been making the rounds with a response. It goes like this: “While we have not made any official announcements regarding Jimi Hendrix and Rock Band, we are excited to say that we are in discussions to bring more of his music to our platform. Stay tuned.” So: more Jimi, definitely. Jimi-exclusive game, probably not.

I’d buy Hendrix whole game, especially if it was exportable.
