What can you say to this except “ouch”? Kotaku recently reported that peripheral manufacturer Mad Catz was slated to release an Xbox version of the original Guitar Hero, but pulled out of the deal due to a lawsuit with Konami. Severing the deal cost them $300k and left the game to launch as a PS2 exclusive.
Less than three years later, the franchise had brought in over a billion dollars in revenue.
From the article:
“Everyone else made hundreds of millions and we paid money to not be a part of it,” [Mad Catz president and CEO Darren] Richardson said. “It was brilliant. I come up with these strokes of genius from time to time. That was my best.”
Like I said: Ouch.
