Well now, this is an interesting idea. In an interview with the Seattle Times, RedOctane co-founder Kai Huang dropped some musings about the future of the Hero franchises. The interview includes some mostly general, big-picture stuff about the Guitar Hero brand, like some very noncommittal thoughts about using Microsoft’s Natal technology in future games.
But right at the end, Huang makes an interesting comment about the catalog of downloadable Guitar Hero tunes. As part of an exchange about licensing music, the interviewer asks, “Will you ever offer a music service — maybe a monthly subscription to a ‘Guitar Hero’ catalog?” Huang’s response:
That’s definitely one of the things we would love to do. There are a lot of issues around music licensing. Consumers want it; I know I want it. We’re trying to make that happen.
Do you think you’d be more likely to partake of Guitar Hero DLC if you had a monthly subscription, a la Rhapsody?
