Dave Grohl must have realized he was in danger of losing his throne as king of the music games, because the Foo Fighters have gone ahead and queued up another four tracks for the Rock Band library. This batch includes two brand-new songs, both of which are officially releasing on the Foo Fighters’ new compilation Greatest Hits (Amazon), which arrives in stores November 3 — the same day this DLC hits the Rock Band store.

But it gets better. That same day, Sub Pop is releasing a remastered version of the debut album from Grohl’s old band, whom you may have heard of. Nirvana’s Bleach (Amazon) is a darker, grungier, and sloppier album than Nirvana’s later stuff, and while the remastering sounds like it’s enriched the tone of the album a bit, it’s left most of the raw edges intact — of which I heartily approve. Anyway, to commemorate that release, Rock Band is releasing three tracks from the album, including the original version of “About a Girl,” the song that made their MTV Unplugged album such a hot seller.

And wrapping things up, we get a lesser-known track from rock queen Joan Jett and her fabulous Blackhearts.

The tracks hit at the usual times, with pricing as follows: $1.99 / 160 Microsoft Points / 200 Wii Points per track; $5.49 (440 MS) for the Nirvana pack; and $6.99 (560 MS) for the Foo Fighters pack.

Grrr! I was hoping for Joan Jett’s “I Hate Myself For Loving You” instead. Hopefully next year.
For the first time in ages there’s not one song that leaps out at me. Very underwhelmed. I’ll still get them all though….
Wow, neither About a Girl or Blew leaps out at you? They both pretty much pounced on me. I’m totally excited.
Paralax, you could always pick up Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.
…Yeah.
Francis, I was never a particularly big Nirvana fan, only really the big hits are memorable to me – I was on the wrong music scene at the time (goth/industrial) and going back to them now I honestly can’t see what all the fuss is/was about. Yes, I’ll admit they were influential, and they were one of the defining sounds of the era, but they really don’t do much for me.
The Foos are slightly different. I never got on them originally, but I enjoy the catchy quality of them, and they’ve (mostly) been fun in the game, but I’ve got to a point now where I’m bored of them – they’re good, but in my opinion not really that great *shrugs* I dunno. I’ll still pick them up.
Joan Jett is a trickier one – I know the name, but I’d have to really think about any of her songs, so I can’t say what it’s going to sound like. I could go hunting, but I’ll wait until tuesday and my normal weekly play through :p
(Please no flaming me – this post is pure opinion)
