Now, see, this competition makes a little more sense to me than the Pepsi VMA contest, even if it is a little contrived. Rock Band is teaming up with Energizer to bring you the “Energizer Rock Band ‘Advance Into Overdrive’” contest.

Here’s how it works: You create a band profile within a Facebook application designed for the contest, anytime between today and November 3. Once the entry period is over, the band with “the most creative, interactive, entertaining, and fan driven page” gets the opportunity to perform live at the MTV Studios in New York on November 13.

For 20 hours.

Seriously, 20 hours. “Signifying the 20 additional hours of continuous playing time provided by using Energizer(R) Advanced Lithium batteries instead of Energizer(R) MAX(R) standard alkaline in their gaming accessories,” of course.

The feat will be streamed live at energizer.rockband.com, and the winning band will get “rock-star treatment,” including “luxury ground transportation, a hotel suite, and dinner at one of New York’s hottest restaurants.”

Once that whirlwind event wraps up, Phase Two kicks in: A new Battle of the Bands competition debuts in-game on November 16, featuring the longest songs in the Rock Band library. Top-scoring players in a series of three competitions get swag and downloads, including a pretty neat grand prize: the entire Rock Band DLC library. You also get a year’s worth of batteries and a bunch of Energizer-branded gear, but come on: Over 800 songs in the Rock Band library and you get them all.
