Speaking of The Beatles: Rock Band, on the Rock Band forums and via the Twitter accounts of various Harmonix staffers, the company is running a couple of informal giveaways for the game. (Well, one giveaway and one “I want to find one of the best and do something nice.”)
The first is a delightfully shameless effort to get #BeatlesRockBand back into the top of the Trending Topics list on Twitter. If you’re new to Twitter, Trending Topics is the list of things being talked about the most, often tracked by “hash tags,” words or phrases preceded by a # symbol that allow Twitter posts on a specific topic to be tracked as a group. So the Beatles RB folks want to make sure Twitter users are seeing the game mentioned in their feeds. From the post about the giveaway:
Tweet about #BeatlesRockBand. Re Tweet official posts about #BeatlesRockBand. To show our appreciation, every time we make it into the trending topics we’ll give something back to you guys. We’ve got all sorts of swag set aside, and some cool behind the scenes type stuff as well. The higher we trend the more we’ll post and the more cool stuff we’ll give away.
So, that’s a quick and easy way to get free stuff. Slightly more involved — though certainly more interesting — is an audience-participation event in the Rock Band forums, where Harmonix community manager Sean is asking for readers to tell their stories about how they got into the Beatles. From the introductory post.
There was someone, probably in your childhood who was a big Beatles fan. Someone who knew every song by heart, for whom the songs went well beyond being music to an irreplaceable part of their lives. And that person made damn sure you listened and you understood. … Maybe it was your parents, maybe an uncle, maybe a good friend, maybe an almost complete stranger but if this happened I bet you remember this story. And I bet it’s a good one.
So if you have a hankering for free Beatles Rock Band and/or Harmonix stuff, there’s two ways you might be able to score some.
