There’s something about projects like this that I just adore. Software developer Toni Westbrook has created an all-new music game for the Commodore 64. Yes, that same computer those of my generation had in fourth grade.
He calls it Shredz64, and it uses a PS2 Guitar Hero controller, connected via an interface which he also designed. With these tools, you can play along to 10 bundled tracks, including “Hotel California” and the overworld theme from The Legend of Zelda. And if those tracks don’t rock your retro heart hard enough, you can even import your own tunes and develop your own note charts.
Which leads us to this question: Why? Why would someone design new software for a system nearly 30 years out of date?
But the answer is pretty obvious, I think: Because he could.
