Well, hello there, new Pearl Jam album Backspacer. What’s that you say? You’re debuting in Rock Band on the 360 the same day you hit retail stores? And Wii and PS3 later that week? In your entirety? How very generous of you!

Here’s the deal with release info: The tracks hit the 360 on Sunday the 20th, same day the album hits stores. Then they hit the Wii on Tuesday, and the PS3 on Thursday, like usual. Pricing per track is the standard two bucks or equivalent, and the whole album goes for $17.99, or 1440 Microsoft Points. Unless you buy the special Backspacer CD at Target, which includes a code to download the whole damn album in Rock Band for free.
Man, for a band that is so independent of spirit, Pearl Jam is whip-smart about making retail work for them. Understand that I don’t intend an ounce of criticism in that statement; these guys seem to know how the world works, and are willing to play along — but on their own terms. You have to admire that. Well, I do, at least.
