Whoops. Turns out the final bit of Guitar Hero World Tour DLC has left PS3 owners a lovely parting gift. Guitar Hero 5 players who downloaded Steve Ouimette’s version of “Dueling Banjos” on PS3 are getting a messy error message: “A content package appears damaged or unreadable.” That wouldn’t be so bad, except that it’s preventing them from playing GH5 at all.
Fortunately Neversoft is on top of the issue. From an official post in the Guitar Hero forums:
We have found this issue and are working on a long term solution. Temporarily, Dueling Banjos has been removed from the PS3 store for download, but we’ll get it back up as soon as we know this issue is fixed.
Note: This issue only affects users who have purchased Dueling Banjos for PS3. If you are one of those users, and want to play GHWT downloadable songs in GH5 right now, the short term solution is to delete your PS3 Guitar Hero World Tour game data located under the Game Data Utility entry in the PS3′s XMB menu. Then, re-download your songs. You DO NOT need to remove Guitar Hero 5 data, which may include the GHWT Downloadable Compatibility Update and the any Disc Imports you may have – these should all be fine. We will let you know as soon as a fixed Dueling Banjos is back up.
The workaround sounds like a bit of a pain, especially if you have a lot of downloaded songs, but at least you can get your GH5 on while Neversoft works on an update.
