Oh hell yes. Next week brings a hefty helping of awesomeness to the Rock Band DLC catalog. First up is underappreciated Canadian metal band Anvil, who was the story of this year’s documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil. We get three tracks from them, including “This is Thirteen,” from the forthcoming album of the same name (Amazon), which comes out the same time these tracks hit: Tuesday.

But that ain’t the half of it. We also get two tracks from seminal indie band Dinosaur Jr., two from classic rock greats The Guess Who (they of “American Woman” fame), and — my favorite part — two from The Greatest Band in the History of the World, Tenacious D.

True story: I saw Tenacious D in concert sometime in ’99 or ’00, and before the show they had a guest come out to announce them, as they tend to. This guest happened to be actor John Cusack, who was in Chicago with Jack Black filming High Fidelity. Here’s what he said:
“The following band asked me to read this: ‘The band you’re about to see has been on tour all over the country. They’ve seen a lot of faces. And they’ve rocked those faces’ asses. So prepare to have your faces’ asses rocked.’”
If a better introduction has ever been written, I’ve never heard of it.
The songs come online next week at the usual times, for the usual prices. And! They’re all appearing on Wii concurrently with the 360, on Tuesday. Sweet.
