Oh my. As if seeing Kurt Cobain performing as Flavor Flav weren’t weird enough — it gets weirder, folks.
Yesterday Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love, posted the following to her Twitter account:
“For the record this Guitar Hero shit is breach of contract on a Bullys part and there will be a proper addressing of this and retraction.”
And that was just the beginning. What followed were dozens of tweets (good God do I hate that word) ranting about the situation, Love’s financial position, the status of Cobain’s estate, and lots of other stuff that quite honestly I can’t really follow on account of the fact that the woman writes like a lobotomized chimp on shrooms. But here are some of the highlights:
“this is NECROPHILIC this is VILE please address all calls to my lawyer Kieth Fink Esquire who is FURIOUS And to my Publicist Rogers and Cowa”
“WE are going to sue the shit out of ACtivision we being the Trust the Estate the LLC the various LLCs Cobain Enterprises.”
“now theyre just LIQUIDATING kurt and IM THE DEVIL? I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH GUITAR HERO I LOATHE IT AND FIND IT ODIOUS KURT WOULD HAVE TOO”
The gist I’m getting here is that Love either a.) doesn’t control the rights to Cobain’s likeness, or, b.) does control the rights, and approved his inclusion in the game without realizing exactly how he’d been used. Or, I suppose, c.) Activision actually did breach contract, but which is more likely? A vast corporation with hungry and overprotective teams of lawyers knowingly breached a contract regarding one of the highest-profile artists of our generation? Or a self-described “ranting loon with assloads of docxumentation and proof and a ‘pending’FBI investigation in OC” might have misunderstood the terms of a contract?
Let me be clear, though: If despite her incoherence Love is telling the truth about being boondoggled with regard to Kurt’s estate, likeness, or royalties — well, there’s a special place in hell reserved for the perpetrators, I’m sure.
