Destructoid has posted an interesting editorial about the significance of the Rock Band Bar Nights announced last week. The author speculates that music games may move from home-based entertainment to primarily a bar scene. Comparing the music-game phenomenon to karaoke, he points out: “Karaoke remains as popular as ever, despite the range of low-end and mid-range machines available at retailers like Wal-Mart and Target.”
Interesting observation. I know plenty of people who have home karaoke machines — or even just karaoke games — but still primarily go out to karaoke.
What do you think? Is being drunk in public the future of music games? Or will they primarily stick in their private (though probably still drunk) setting?

I don’t see bars completely embracing the idea. It’s just way too hard to play Guitar Hero and Rock Band while drunk. I think it would ultimately affect the bars bottom line in terns of lower beer sales.
I could be completely wrong too…
My guess is the special bar version of Rock Band will have a permanent no-fail mode. The bar owners don’t care if you play well…and most patrons probably wouldn’t either.
