When I put up the news about the Steve Ouimette track last week, I theorized it might be the end of downloadable content for World Tour. And it sounds like that’s pretty much the case. Here’s what I heard back from an Activision spokesperson:
Guitar Hero 5 downloadable content will be compatible with future Guitar Hero and Band Hero games, however the advancements and innovations made to the franchise do not allow for downloadable content to be backwards compatible with Guitar Hero World Tour.
Notice that the statement stops short of saying definitively “no more World Tour DLC.” I figure it’s entirely possible they want to reserve the right to put out new tracks for special occasions. But unless I hear otherwise, I’m going to operate under the assumption that all future DLC will be for Guitar Hero 5 and up.

that’s usually the case with the GH franchise – once a newer version comes out then most DLC released is for the newest version. There are some exceptions like GH2 and GH3 still came out with a handful of songs for DLC but they were most likely ‘leftovers’ that were already in the works to be released and just delayed. Also with the GH5 mechanic improvements – the only reason I’ll be popping GHWT in my xbox will be to play the Jimi Hendrix songs which wont carry over
True. I have to say, though, that I’m a little surprised they didn’t want to figure out a way to make DLC cross-compatible. I understand about the new features; I just thought they’d want to offer basic versions just from a sales perspective.
Perhaps I’m spoiled, though — at least the instruments still work!
