The Boston Globe Gets Beatlemania

Rooftop_bmp_jpgcopy-540The Beatles: Rock Band gets a nice little writeup today from the Boston Globe, who spoke to a number of significant folks behind the game. Unfortunately, they also spoke to this dude:

“I don’t believe there’s a teenager in the US who cares about The Beatles: Rock Band,’’ says Joe Spiegel, a video-game industry analyst at Dalek Capital Management in New York. “And I don’t think this is the economic environment to go after new gamers.’’

Which would be true…if appreciation for the Beatles were entirely contained within our parents’ generation. And if the gamer demographic hadn’t exploded in recent years, thanks in large part to music games. And if music-game fans hadn’t already shown a willingness to dive into unfamiliar music. And if the game didn’t introduce any new features, like three-part harmonies.

If none of those things were true, that guy would be totally right!

But they’re all true.

Man, how do I get a job as a videogame industry analyst?
